Savor the Bourbon Trail Experience

When most people think of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, they picture distillery tours and tastings, and they’re not wrong! But what surprised me is how uniquely diverse and adaptable this destination truly is.

Whether you’re a bourbon lover, a foodie, or an adventurous couple, there’s something in Kentucky for you.

Crafting the Perfect Journey

Each of my four trips has been completely different. One day might take you from a distillery tour at Buffalo Trace to sipping cocktails beneath the chandeliers at Old Forester.

Another might include a visit to the iconic Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, or a tour of the legendary Claiborne Farm where Secretariat once stood.

You can also choose to stay in one of three popular gateway cities:

  • Louisville
  • Lexington
  • Bardstown

Each offers a distinct experience and convenient proximity to major points of interest. If you’re planning a longer trip, consider staying in more than one place to get the full flavor of Kentucky!

Culinary Experience

This region is also seriously underrated when it comes to dining. Louisville, Lexington, and Bardstown each bring something different to the table, literally. On our most recent trip, we had an incredible dinner at La Bodeguita de Mima in Louisville, Cuban cuisine served in a vibrant, unforgettable atmosphere that made us feel like we were worlds away from Kentucky.

On previous visits, we’ve sipped wine flights and shared small plates at LouVino, devoured juicy burgers and hand-cut fries at Bardstown Burger, and enjoyed a one-of-a-kind dinner at Le Moo, where we ordered a steak flight and tried several cuts in one unforgettable meal.

Whether you’re looking for globally inspired flavors, elevated Southern cuisine, or just a great bite between distillery stops, the Bourbon Trail’s culinary scene is full of surprises and definitely worth exploring.
